The quick answer
There are four official ways to check SIM owner details in Pakistan, online or by SMS. Each one works on your own CNIC or your own SIM.
| Method | What you get | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| SMS your CNIC to 668 | The number of SIMs on your CNIC, network by network | About Rs 2 plus tax |
| Open cnic.sims.pk | The same count on screen | Free |
| SMS the word MNP to 667 | The registration details of the SIM in your phone | SMS charges may apply |
| PTA's WhatsApp assistant, 0315-0055055 | Guidance on SIM questions and help filing a complaint | Free, uses data |
No official channel shows the name, CNIC or address behind someone else's number.

What "SIM owner details" means
Every SIM sold in Pakistan is registered against a CNIC and verified with a thumbprint. The record of who owns which SIM is kept by the mobile operators, and PTA runs a system that lets each person check the SIMs under their own identity card.
So the check that is open to everyone is this: how many SIMs are on my CNIC, and on which networks? That answer is enough to spot a SIM that someone else activated in your name.
People search for this record under many names: SIM information, SIM database, Pak SIM data, SIM details, SIM ownership. They all mean the same registration record, and it is reached through the same official channels described on this page.
What you can check
- The number of SIMs registered on your CNIC
- Which operator each SIM is with
- Whether a SIM exists that you never bought
- The registration of a SIM you are holding
What you can't check
- The name, CNIC or address behind someone else's number
- Another person's call or location records
- The SIMs on a CNIC that isn't yours, without that person's consent
How to check SIM owner details on your CNIC
The first two methods cover every SIM on your CNIC and give the same result. The others are for one SIM, or for getting help.
Method 1: the online portal, cnic.sims.pk (free)
- Open cnic.sims.pk in any browser.
- Type your 13-digit CNIC number without dashes.
- Complete the security check if one appears, then submit.
- Read the table. It lists how many SIMs you have with each operator, and the total.
The portal only needs an internet connection, which makes it the method to use from outside Pakistan.
Method 2: SMS your CNIC to 668
- Open a new text message on any SIM.
- Type your 13-digit CNIC number with no dashes or spaces.
- Send it to 668.
- The reply shows the number of SIMs on your CNIC, operator by operator.
The portal is free. The SMS carries a small standard charge, around Rs 2 plus tax, which can change.
Method 3: check one SIM with MNP to 667
To check a single SIM instead of your whole CNIC, put that SIM in your phone and text the word MNP to 667. The reply gives the registration details held for that SIM.
It only answers for the SIM that sends the message. That makes it useful before you link a number to a bank account or mobile wallet, and when you are handed a used SIM.
Method 4: PTA's WhatsApp assistant
In February 2026 PTA launched a Digital Assistant on WhatsApp at 0315-0055055. It is menu-based: it gives guidance on telecom services and walks you through filing a complaint.
Take the number from PTA's own announcement. Treat any WhatsApp account that asks for an OTP or a payment as a scam, whatever name it uses.
Method 5: the operator's franchise or helpline
For a printed record, a correction or a block, go to your operator's franchise or customer service centre with your original CNIC. Staff verify your thumbprint before they change anything. The helplines can take a complaint and give you a reference number.
Which method should you use?
| Your situation | Use this |
|---|---|
| I want every SIM on my CNIC | cnic.sims.pk or SMS to 668. See the CNIC check guide. |
| I'm holding a SIM and want to confirm it | MNP to 667 from that SIM |
| I'm outside Pakistan | cnic.sims.pk |
| I want to know a number's network | The tool at the top of this page |
| I need a SIM blocked or removed | The operator's franchise, with your original CNIC |
| The operator hasn't solved my problem | A PTA complaint, on 0800-55055 or complaint.pta.gov.pk |
If the check doesn't work
- Type the CNIC as 13 digits, with no dashes, spaces or letters.
- 668 is an SMS short code. Send a text message to it. Dialling it won't work.
- Make sure you have balance for the SMS.
- Type cnic.sims.pk yourself and check the spelling. Look-alike sites exist to collect CNIC numbers.
- If one method fails, try the other. They read the same record.
How many SIMs can be registered on one CNIC?
Eight in total: five voice SIMs and three data-only SIMs, counted across all networks together. The Supreme Court set this limit on 5 November 2015. Before that, the cap was five SIMs per CNIC.
A count that looks too high isn't always fraud. These all count toward your eight:
- A data SIM left inside an old internet device or dongle
- A number you stopped using but never closed
- A SIM you bought for a family member on your own CNIC
If there is still a SIM you can't account for, follow the steps under Found a SIM that isn't yours. The limit and the other rules are explained under SIM information.
Can you check SIM owner details by number?
No. There is no official way to get a name, CNIC or address from someone else's mobile number. The 668 service and the portal start from your own CNIC, and 667 only answers for the SIM that sends the message.
What a number does tell you
- Which network issued it, from the first four digits. The tool at the top reads this for you.
- Whether it is a valid mobile number: 11 digits starting with 03, or +92 3 from abroad.
"Pak SIM data" and "SIM database" websites
Websites and apps that promise SIM owner details by number have no access to PTA's records. What they show is either made up or taken from old leaked data, and many record the numbers and CNICs typed into them. Some push visitors to pay through WhatsApp for "full details".
Avoid them, and never enter your CNIC on one. Using another person's identity information without permission is also an offence under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016.
| PECA 2016 | Offence | Maximum penalty |
|---|---|---|
| Section 16 | Obtaining, selling, possessing, transmitting or using another person's identity information without authorisation | 3 years in prison, a fine of Rs 5 million, or both |
| Section 17 | Unauthorised issuance of SIM cards | 3 years in prison, a fine of Rs 500,000, or both |
This table is general information, not legal advice.
If an unknown number is harassing you
- Save the evidence: screenshots of messages and call logs, with dates and times.
- Block the number on your phone.
- Report it to the number's operator, and to PTA if the operator doesn't act.
- For fraud, blackmail or threats, call the cybercrime helpline of the NCCIA on 1799.
You don't need to know who the caller is before you report. Investigators can get subscriber records from the operators through legal process.
Which network is a number from?
The first four digits of a Pakistani mobile number show which operator issued it. Enter a number in the tool at the top of this page, or read the code from this table.
| Mobile code | Network |
|---|---|
| 0300 to 0309 | Jazz |
| 0310 to 0319 | Zong |
| 0320 to 0329 | Jazz (formerly Warid) |
| 0330 to 0339 | Ufone |
| 0340 to 0349 | Telenor |
| 0355 | SCOM (AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan) |
| 0370 to 0371 | Zong |
The code shows the network that first issued the number. Someone who switched networks through mobile number portability keeps the old code, so the current network can be different.
Codes for your own SIM
These codes show the number of the SIM in your phone. Operators change codes from time to time, so confirm with your operator if one doesn't respond.
| Network | Show my number | Helpline |
|---|---|---|
| Jazz | *99# | 111 |
| Zong | *8# | 310 |
| Ufone | *780*3# | 333 |
| Telenor | Empty SMS to 7421 | 345 |
Helplines are dialled from that operator's own SIM.
Network guides: Jazz, Zong, Telenor, Ufone, SCOM. All codes are on the network codes page.
Telenor and Ufone are now one company
On 1 July 2026 Telenor Pakistan was formally merged into Pak Telecom Mobile Limited (PTML), the PTCL subsidiary that runs Ufone, after approval from the Islamabad High Court. The company has promised continuity of service for both Ufone and Telenor customers while the two networks are integrated.
ONIC has stopped selling new SIMs
In September 2026 PTA ordered PTML to stop issuing new ONIC SIMs and eSIMs and to stop taking new subscriptions. PTA found that ONIC works like a mobile virtual network operator, which needs its own licence. Existing ONIC customers keep their service during a three-month transition.
SIM rules that changed in 2026
Older guides still describe rules that no longer apply. These are the changes that affect a SIM owner details check, newest first.
- September 2026
- PTA ordered a stop to new ONIC SIM and eSIM sales. Existing customers keep their service.
- July 2026
- Telenor Pakistan merged into PTML, the company behind Ufone.
- June 2026
- PTA said SIMs registered on expired CNICs will stop working. Renew your CNIC with NADRA, then make sure your operator's record is up to date.
- May 2026
- The SIM disowning period went from 60 days to 365 days. A newly activated SIM can now be disowned only after one year from activation.
- February 2026
- PTA launched its Digital Assistant on WhatsApp, 0315-0055055.
Two more points. New SIMs are no longer sold between midnight and 6 am. And PTA has proposed facial verification as an extra step when a SIM is issued, but as of September 2026 that was a proposal and not a rule.
The one-year disowning rule means a SIM you give your thumbprint for stays on your CNIC for a year. Don't give your thumbprint for anyone else's SIM.
Found a SIM that isn't yours?
A SIM on your CNIC is your responsibility. If it is used for fraud, the trail leads to you, so act quickly and keep a record of each step.
- Take a screenshot of the portal result or the 668 reply, with the date showing.
- Note which operator the unknown SIM is with.
- Call that operator's helpline. Say a SIM is registered on your CNIC without your permission, and ask for a complaint number.
- Go to the operator's franchise or customer service centre with your original CNIC and ask for the SIM to be blocked and disowned. They will verify your thumbprint.
- If the operator doesn't resolve it, file a complaint with PTA on 0800-55055 or at complaint.pta.gov.pk, and quote the operator's complaint number.
- Check again on the portal or through 668 after a few days to confirm the count has dropped.
What it costs
Since 1 January 2024, operators can charge up to Rs 200 to disown a SIM that has been held for less than six months. There is a one-time waiver if the SIM was issued in your name illegally and without your consent, so say clearly at the counter that you never bought it.
If the SIM is less than a year old
Under the 2026 rule, a newly activated SIM can be disowned only after one year. If you are told an unknown SIM can't be disowned yet, ask for it to be blocked and file the PTA complaint anyway. The complaint is your dated proof that you reported it.
Block, disown or transfer?
| Action | What it does | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Block | Stops the SIM working, for example after a phone is lost | Helpline or franchise |
| Disown | Removes the SIM from your CNIC | Franchise, with your CNIC and thumbprint |
| Transfer | Moves the SIM to another person's CNIC | Franchise, with both people present |
Keep your CNIC clean
- Don't hand a SIM registered in your name to anyone else. PTA has warned that this is an offence.
- Buy SIMs only from an operator's franchise or an authorised retailer.
- Be careful where you give your thumbprint.
- Write the purpose and the date across any CNIC photocopy you hand over.
- Block SIMs you no longer use, and repeat the check every few months.
Overseas, expired CNIC and used SIMs
Checking from outside Pakistan
The 668 service needs a Pakistani SIM, so use cnic.sims.pk with your CNIC or NICOP number. PTA's WhatsApp assistant also works over the internet. Blocking or disowning a SIM needs a thumbprint at a franchise, so ask the operator's helpline how to handle it while you are abroad.
If your CNIC has expired
PTA warned more than once in 2026 that SIMs on expired CNICs can be blocked. Renew the card through NADRA. Your 13-digit number stays the same, so your SIMs stay linked to it. After renewal, check with your operator that its record is updated.
SIMs of a relative who has died
SIMs stay registered on a CNIC after the holder dies, until the family has them closed. Go to each operator's franchise with the death certificate and your own CNIC, and ask what they need to block or transfer the numbers.
Buying or taking over a used SIM
Text MNP to 667 from the SIM to see the record it sits on. Then complete an ownership transfer at the operator's franchise with the current owner present. Until the transfer is done, the number legally belongs to the previous owner.
SIM scams to watch for
Most SIM fraud depends on a person handing over a code, a thumbprint or a payment. These are the common patterns.
| What happens | What to do |
|---|---|
| A caller claiming to be from your bank, PTA or an operator asks for the code you just received | Never share an OTP or PIN. Hang up and call the number printed on your bank card. |
| "Your SIM will be blocked today unless you pay" | Don't pay. Check your own record on cnic.sims.pk and call your operator's helpline yourself. |
| Your phone loses signal for hours while others on the same network are fine | A duplicate SIM may have been issued. Call your operator from another phone at once. |
| A stall offers a free SIM and asks for your thumbprint more than once | Each scan can register a SIM. Buy from a franchise, and check your CNIC afterwards. |
| A link sends you a "SIM checker" app file | Don't install it. Use only the operators' own apps from the official app stores. |
Where to report
- Spam messages: forward them to 9000.
- Fraud, blackmail or identity misuse: the NCCIA cybercrime helpline, 1799.
- A SIM problem the operator hasn't fixed: PTA on 0800-55055.
- A phone you are about to buy: dial *#06# to see its IMEI, then SMS the IMEI to 8484 to check its status with PTA.
All the codes in one table

Yes. Use cnic.sims.pk with your CNIC or NICOP number. The 668 SMS service needs a Pakistani SIM.
How do I remove a SIM that isn't mine from my CNIC?
