What SIM information is

SIM information is the registration record that links a SIM to a CNIC. The record is created when a SIM is sold: the buyer's thumbprint is checked against their CNIC before the SIM is activated.

In short, Pakistan SIM information is a record of which CNIC each SIM belongs to. This SIM ownership information is what every check on this site reads.

PTA's public service for checking this record is called the SIM Information System. You reach it online at cnic.sims.pk and by SMS on 668.

SIM information, SIM database, Pak SIM data: are they different?

They are different search phrases for the same registration record. So are SIM info, SIM details, SIM data, SIM record, Pak SIM info and Pakistan SIM details. PTA runs one official checking service, and it only answers for your own CNIC.

Sites that advertise "fresh SIM data" or "all SIM data" suggest that they hold a newer copy of the record. They don't. The only current record is the official one, and checking it for your own CNIC costs nothing online.

The phrases "SIM database" and "Pak SIM data" are also used by unofficial websites that claim to look up any number. Those sites are not connected to PTA. The page on SIM owner details by number explains what they really show.

The PMD SIM information system and 667

PMD is the Pakistan MNP Database, the company set up by the mobile operators to run mobile number portability. The SIM check on 667 is linked to it, which is why some people call it the PMD SIM information system.

To use it, put the SIM in your phone and text the word MNP to 667. The reply gives the registration details held for that SIM. It answers only for the SIM that sends the message.

How many SIMs one CNIC can hold

Eight in total: five voice SIMs and three data-only SIMs, counted across all networks together. The Supreme Court set this limit on 5 November 2015. Before that, the cap was five SIMs per CNIC.

Data SIMs count. A SIM sitting in an old internet device still takes one of your three data places until it is closed.

Rules that affect your SIM record in 2026

September 2026
PTA ordered a stop to new ONIC SIM and eSIM sales. Existing customers keep their service during a three-month transition.
July 2026
Telenor Pakistan merged into PTML, the PTCL subsidiary that runs Ufone.
June 2026
PTA said SIMs registered on expired CNICs will stop working.
May 2026
A newly activated SIM can now be disowned only after one year. The period used to be 60 days.
February 2026
PTA launched a Digital Assistant on WhatsApp, 0315-0055055, for guidance and complaints.

New SIMs are also no longer sold between midnight and 6 am. Facial verification for new SIMs has been proposed by PTA, but as of September 2026 it was a proposal and not a rule.

Keeping your SIM information correct

  • Renew your CNIC before it expires, then confirm with your operator that its record is updated. Your 13-digit number does not change on renewal. More on the card itself is under CNIC information.
  • Close SIMs you no longer use, so they stop counting toward your limit.
  • Never hand a SIM registered in your name to another person. PTA has warned that this is an offence.
  • Give your thumbprint only at an operator's franchise or an authorised retailer.
  • Write the purpose and the date across any CNIC photocopy you hand over.
  • If the check shows a SIM you don't recognise, have it blocked and disowned.

Phone status is a separate check

SIM information is about the SIM. Whether a handset is registered with PTA is a different record, checked by the phone's IMEI. Dial *#06# to see the 15-digit IMEI, then SMS it to 8484.

Common questions

What is the SIM Information System?

It is PTA's service for checking how many SIMs are registered on a CNIC. It is available online at cnic.sims.pk and by SMS on 668.

Is cnic.sims.pk an official website?

Yes. It is PTA's SIM Information System. Type the address yourself, because look-alike sites exist.

What is the difference between SIM information and SIM owner details?

There is none in practice. Both phrases refer to the registration record that links a SIM to a CNIC.

Do data SIMs count toward the limit?

Yes. The limit is five voice SIMs plus three data-only SIMs per CNIC, eight in total.

Can a phone's IMEI show who owns a SIM?

No. The IMEI identifies the handset. SIM ownership is a separate record.

How do I check SIM details online?

Use cnic.sims.pk for a SIM data check online. Enter your CNIC number and it shows the SIMs registered in your name. It is the only official online SIM data check.

Is there a SIM database online?

The official SIM database is not open to the public. PTA lets each person check their own CNIC through cnic.sims.pk and 668. Other sites that call themselves a SIM database online are not connected to PTA.

What is Pak SIM data?

It is a search phrase for SIM registration records in Pakistan. It is also the name unofficial lookup sites use for themselves. A real Pak SIM data check is done only through PTA's own services.
